Dragon Sculpture
Edition of 7 (2019)
Dragon is a monumental 4.5-metre suspended sculpture and one of the most technically ambitious works ever produced by the atelier. Conceived without compromise and realised entirely by hand, the sculpture required eighteen months of work by multiple teams of highly specialised artisans. The work exists as a strictly limited edition of seven, six of which are already held in major private collections around the world, underscoring both its rarity and its significance within contemporary sculptural practice.
The sculpture is composed of thousands of narrow metal strips, each individually hand-sawn, bent, and spot-welded to establish form on both sides. These fragile frameworks are then meticulously line-welded to close the gaps and transform the structure into continuous metal surfaces. Once assembled, the welded forms are burred and finished until all traces of welding disappear, resulting in a seamless and enigmatic shape whose logic only becomes fully legible when paired with its corresponding counterpart. Each major element is digitally planned for absolute precision before being assembled entirely by hand.
Following structural completion, every element is drilled by hand with thousands of micro-perforations of varying diameters, creating a surface that is both dense and translucent. Pairs of these perforated forms are then welded together, gradually building the larger body of the sculpture. Once fully assembled, the work is polished and patinated to an aged bronze finish before being suspended. Although not internally illuminated, Dragon appears luminous through its perforation and flow, giving the impression that the metal has been spun rather than formed. Installed in exceptional private residences and collections worldwide, the sculpture demonstrates a radical reimagining of metal as a fluid, expressive medium.
