Infinity - 818 Series
(2019)
Infinity is one of four bespoke artworks commissioned for the 78-metre Feadship mega yacht Syzygy 818, later renamed Pi, which won Best Yacht at the Monaco Yacht Show 2019 upon its unveiling. Built by Feadship, with exterior design by Jarkko Jämsén and interior architecture by Sinot Yacht Design, the yacht’s owner granted Yahya complete creative freedom to conceive four major artworks for key spaces on board. Infinity was created specifically for the owner’s private office, conceived as an intimate yet technically ambitious counterpart to the more monumental works elsewhere on the vessel.
Infinity continues the geometric and philosophical exploration initiated in Mandala, focusing on the double-helix and Fibonacci systems as symbols of perpetual movement and balance. At its centre is a Fibonacci medallion, hand-sawn from stainless steel and backlit, containing a second inner medallion that reinforces the idea of recursion. From this centre, thick radial arms unfold in a continuous double-helix spiral, expanding outward before visually folding back in on themselves. The concave form intensifies this motion, embodying the simultaneous expansion and contraction of the universe.
Entirely handmade in stainless steel, Infinity is one of the most technically demanding works in the yacht series. The surface is cut from 2-millimetre sheet and meticulously engraved to reveal how each arm interlocks and threads into the next, with engraved lines that deliberately start and stop to articulate movement. Unlike Mandala, the structure is fully open through its depth, revealing a continuous sculptural body that measures up to 80 millimetres in depth. The sculpture arches inward, requiring millimetre-perfect assembly to maintain a flawless concave curvature. With no infill pattern, the work relies on the raw purity of material, light, shadow, and depth to achieve its presence.
