Wall Light - Shield (Floral)

Ref: L-WL-004-HSF

The Floral Shield Wall Light is a sculptural variation of the iconic medallion collection, distinguished by its softly convex shield-like form and richly textured handcrafted surface. Suspended slightly away from the wall upon a concealed structure, the piece features a small central medallion entirely hand-sawn by master jewellers using Yahya’s signature intricate floral patterns, creating a luminous focal point at the heart of the composition.

Surrounding the illuminated medallion, the wider sculptural surface is meticulously hammered and textured by hand to evoke the refined appearance of shagreen, creating a rich contrast between textured metal and delicate floral openwork. Hidden behind the shield form, delicate radial openings project a mysterious 360-degree halo of fine light lines across the surrounding wall, framing the piece with an atmospheric architectural glow. Both sculptural and atmospheric, the Floral Shield Wall Light remains a timeless expression of handcrafted metalwork, sculptural light, and refined contemporary decorative design.

The medallion wall lights are illuminated using ultra high-quality integrated COB (Chip-on-Board) LED systems and architectural LED strip systems specifically selected and engineered to produce the exceptional precision, atmospheric clarity, and refined luminous effects characteristic of the Yahya collection. Unlike conventional E14, E27, or standard multi-source LED bulbs, which create diffuse and imprecise lighting effects, the lighting systems used within these pieces are designed as highly controlled integrated sources of illumination. This allows the intricate hand-sawn floral metalwork, Fibonacci motifs, and Liquid Light micro-perforated surfaces to illuminate evenly while simultaneously projecting remarkably sharp and refined atmospheric radial patterns across surrounding architectural surfaces. The exceptional definition and depth of these luminous effects are only achievable through the combination of specialised integrated lighting systems and Yahya’s handcrafted metalwork techniques.

Each medallion wall light is composed around a concealed structural backplate fixed directly to the wall, upon which the decorative illuminated medallion itself is mounted. This concealed internal structure houses the complete integrated lighting system while allowing the visible sculptural medallion to remain visually pure and free from any visible electrical elements. The decorative face of the medallion is illuminated internally using concealed integrated LED strip systems positioned to evenly diffuse light across the hand-sawn sculptural surface, creating a soft luminous glow throughout the artwork itself. Integrated within the same concealed structural body are three concealed LED modules specifically positioned to project the characteristic 360-degree radial atmospheric lines surrounding the medallion. These concealed light sources create the halo-like radial projections for which the medallion collection has become known. The decorative medallion can be carefully removed to access the concealed structural plate and integrated lighting systems beneath, allowing a qualified electrician to easily access the LED systems and drivers should maintenance ever be required. In most cases, after many years of use, the driver itself is typically the component requiring replacement rather than the LED modules or strip systems, which are supplied with long-life manufacturer guarantees of approximately five years under normal operating conditions.

The medallion wall lights can be electrified according to UK, European, or US electrical standards and may be supplied with compatible drivers and electrical configurations accordingly. Dimmable systems can equally be integrated upon request, including compatibility with protocols such as DALI, DMX, 1–10V, and other project-specific lighting control systems specified by clients or lighting consultants. Colour temperature is carefully selected according to the finish and atmosphere of each piece itself. Brass and aged bronze finishes are generally supplied at 2700K to create a warm candlelight-like glow, while polished nickel silver finishes are typically supplied at 3000K for a slightly crisper architectural illumination. Throughout the collection, the lighting philosophy remains consistent: the source of illumination is never directly visible, and the light itself becomes an atmospheric sculptural material revealing the craftsmanship, depth, textures, and projection work of each piece.

Our brass pieces are hand-finished and aged to a rich bronze patination, then protected using a strong satin interior varnish designed to preserve the finish while maintaining the natural depth and warmth of the metal. For regular care, pieces should simply be dusted using a soft dry cloth without water or abrasive cleaning products. Over time, as with all living materials, the finish may naturally deepen and evolve in tone, developing an increasingly antique character that forms part of the beauty of aged bronze and brass.

Exterior pieces are protected using specialist UV-resistant varnishes developed for outdoor bronze sculptures and artworks. While these finishes offer substantial long-term protection, natural weathering and gradual patination remain an inherent characteristic of the material over extended periods. Should the varnish eventually soften or wear after many years, surfaces may be gently waxed and buffed in the traditional manner used for fine leather or bronze objects.

Polished nickel silver is not an electroplated finish but a solid material that may naturally soften slightly over time through handling and exposure. As with traditional silver objects, the surface can be restored using standard silver polishes widely available in hardware stores, or through traditional methods such as gentle lemon-based cleaning. Microfibre cloths are recommended for routine care, while abrasive materials and scratching should be avoided. Due to the entirely handmade nature of the work, subtle artisanal irregularities, variations, and traces of hand craftsmanship form an intentional part of the character and authenticity of each piece.
