Wall Light - Cropped Cylinder (Liquid Light)

Ref: L-WL-007-HSL

The Crop Cylinder Wall Light is a refined reinterpretation of the iconic cylinder form, rebalanced through asymmetrical proportions to create a more contemporary architectural silhouette animated by light and shadow. Appearing to float effortlessly from the wall upon a discreet concealed backplate, the piece is composed from two cylindrical sections separated by a refined central metal ring housing concealed up and down lighting sources. The upper section is intentionally reduced in height while the lower section is elongated, creating a subtle off-centred composition that introduces rhythm and harmony within the purity of the form.

Reinterpreted through Yahya’s signature abstract micro-perforation technique known as Liquid Light, the illuminated surfaces project delicate atmospheric patterns across surrounding walls, ceilings, and architectural surfaces while leaving the source of illumination entirely hidden. Both architectural and atmospheric, the Crop Cylinder Wall Light remains a timeless expression of sculptural light and refined contemporary design.

The cylinder wall lights are illuminated using ultra high-quality integrated COB (Chip-on-Board) LED systems specifically selected and engineered to produce the exceptional precision and clarity of the projected light patterns for which the Yahya collection is known. Unlike conventional E14, E27, or standard multi-source LED bulbs, which create diffuse and imprecise shadow projections, the COB LEDs used within the collection function as highly concentrated and controlled singular light sources. This allows the intricate hand-sawn floral work, Liquid Light micro-perforations, and engraved openwork surfaces to project remarkably sharp and atmospheric patterns onto surrounding walls, ceilings, and architectural surfaces. The extraordinary definition and refinement of these luminous projections are only achievable through the use of these specialised integrated lighting systems combined with Yahya’s handcrafted metalwork techniques.

All LEDs are fully integrated and concealed within the central structural section of the cylinder wall lights so that the source of illumination itself always remains entirely invisible. Each cylinder incorporates concealed integrated uplighting and downlighting positioned within the central metal band, allowing light to project simultaneously through the upper and lower sculptural sections while maintaining the purity of the overall form. The LED modules are accessible by carefully removing the hand-sawn cylindrical sections surrounding the central illuminated body, allowing a qualified electrician to easily access the integrated LED plates should servicing ever be required. The driver systems are generally housed within the wall-mounted backplate to ensure straightforward future accessibility and maintenance. In most cases, should servicing be required after many years of use, the driver itself is typically the component requiring replacement rather than the LED modules, which are supplied with long-life manufacturer guarantees of approximately five years under normal operating conditions.

The cylinder wall lights can be electrified according to UK, European, or US electrical standards and may be supplied with compatible drivers and electrical configurations accordingly. Dimmable systems can equally be integrated upon request, including compatibility with protocols such as DALI, DMX, 1–10V, and other project-specific lighting control systems specified by clients or lighting consultants. Colour temperature is carefully selected according to the finish of the piece itself in order to preserve the intended atmosphere and materiality. Brass and aged bronze finishes are generally supplied at 2700K to create a warm candlelight-like glow, while polished nickel silver finishes are typically supplied at 3000K for a slightly crisper architectural illumination. Throughout the collection, the lighting philosophy remains consistent: the source of illumination is never directly visible, and the light itself becomes an atmospheric sculptural material that reveals the craftsmanship, depth, and projection work of each piece.

Our brass pieces are hand-finished and aged to a rich bronze patination, then protected using a strong satin interior varnish designed to preserve the finish while maintaining the natural depth and warmth of the metal. For regular care, pieces should simply be dusted using a soft dry cloth without water or abrasive cleaning products. Over time, as with all living materials, the finish may naturally deepen and evolve in tone, developing an increasingly antique character that forms part of the beauty of aged bronze and brass.

Exterior pieces are protected using specialist UV-resistant varnishes developed for outdoor bronze sculptures and artworks. While these finishes offer substantial long-term protection, natural weathering and gradual patination remain an inherent characteristic of the material over extended periods. Should the varnish eventually soften or wear after many years, surfaces may be gently waxed and buffed in the traditional manner used for fine leather or bronze objects.

Polished nickel silver is not an electroplated finish but a solid material that may naturally soften slightly over time through handling and exposure. As with traditional silver objects, the surface can be restored using standard silver polishes widely available in hardware stores, or through traditional methods such as gentle lemon-based cleaning. Microfibre cloths are recommended for routine care, while abrasive materials and scratching should be avoided. Due to the entirely handmade nature of the work, subtle artisanal irregularities, variations, and traces of hand craftsmanship form an intentional part of the character and authenticity of each piece.
