The Squash Globe Pendant is a refined variation of one of Yahya's most iconic lighting designs, distinguished by its elegant elliptical proportions and strong architectural presence. Entirely hand-sawn and hand-engraved with Yahya's signature floral motifs, the sculptural body is composed of carefully crafted sections that are seamlessly assembled to create a continuous flowing form. The compressed spherical profile allows the intricate floral metalwork to unfold across a broader horizontal surface, creating a striking visual presence whether viewed from below or across a room. Illuminated from within, the pendant projects rich patterns of light and shadow upwards onto surrounding ceilings whilst simultaneously providing focused illumination below through an integrated concealed downlight. Combining decorative atmosphere with practical functionality, the Squash Globe Pendant is particularly suited to dining tables, entrance halls, reception spaces, and hospitality environments. The pendant is suspended from a structural ceiling fixation plate concealed behind a decorative ceiling canopy. The electrical connections and drivers are housed within the canopy, allowing convenient access for maintenance whilst remaining completely hidden from view.
The elliptical body is composed of hand-sawn and hand-engraved sections that are carefully assembled and finished seamlessly to create the impression of a single continuous form. Access to the lighting system is provided through concealed twist-lock fixing systems integrated within the upper and lower architectural elements, allowing straightforward maintenance and lamp replacement.
The lighting system incorporates two independent light sources. The first illuminates the hand-sawn floral metalwork internally, projecting decorative patterns onto ceilings and surrounding architectural surfaces. The second is concealed within the lower two-tier architectural base and provides a focused downlight beneath the pendant, making the piece suitable for dining tables, entrance halls, reception areas, and hospitality environments. The Squash Globe Pendant is available in multiple standard sizes, with larger bespoke versions available upon request. Exterior versions may also be specified with IP67-rated electrical components and a specialist UV-resistant protective coating system developed for long-term outdoor durability.
The brass with aged bronze finish or polished nickel silver surfaces should be lightly dusted using a soft dry cloth or microfibre cloth. Abrasive products, aggressive cleaning materials, and excessive moisture should be avoided in order to preserve the integrity of the finish.
Our brass pieces are hand-finished, aged to a rich bronze patination, and protected with a durable lacquer system. Interior versions utilise a specialist interior lacquer, whilst exterior versions receive a UV-resistant protective coating developed specifically for outdoor environments.
Polished nickel silver is a solid material rather than a plated finish and may naturally soften slightly over time. Where required, it may be maintained using a quality silver polish or traditional lemon-based cleaning methods, followed by careful rinsing and drying. Due to the entirely handmade nature of the work, subtle variations and traces of hand craftsmanship form an intentional part of the character and authenticity of the piece.
